Confronting Transphobia in the Secular Movement with Arden Hart

Leading secular voices such as Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and Jerry Coyne have spread harmful misinformation about the transgender community, often masking transphobia as scientific debate or free speech. This session explores how their rhetoric misrepresents trans lives, the real-world impact of their words, and why it’s critical we challenge these narratives. We’ll discuss how to build a secular movement grounded in truth, empathy, and justice for trans and nonbinary people.

Arden Hart (she/her) is a trans rights activist and reptile enthusiast first and foremost. She grew up in a staunchly conservative town and her family was involved in a non-denominational charismatic church for much of her early life. Despite that upbringing—or perhaps because of it—she became aware of her trans identity from an early age. That was one of the most consequential forces that knocked over the first domino in her deconversion and laid the path to where she is today, a brazen atheist, skeptic, humanist, and defender of trans rights.

Comedy Show with Erikka Innes & Kurt Weitzmann

Erikka Innes is a razor-sharp comic voice with a love for the absurd and a taste for the offbeat. Known for her lightning quick wit and unexpected analysis of the world, she weaves brainy observations into hilarious stories that hit with equal parts humor and heart. Whether Erikka’s riffing on tech, tearing into the inequities of modern life, or sharing personal tales of awkward rebellion, Erikka brings an unmistakable edge to the stage—think Socrates meets late-night punk show.

Her comedy balances neurotic self-deprecation with brash, ballsy confidence. Her jokes have landed her spots on Amazon Prime, Sirius XM, and Fox’s Laughs, and she’s been highlighted in the press including the New York Post and San Francisco Weekly. She’s performed in clubs across the country as well as in Europe, and Erikka has earned a strong, loyal following for her smart, fearless approach, which has inspired many a comedy show-goer.

When she’s not on stage, Erikka is a writer whose work leans into the weird and the thoughtful.
