SSA Chapters Across Texas Volunteer in Houston
On November 3, three SSA chapters in Texas converged on Houston for a service day project to help reconstruct houses that were damaged when Hurricane Harvey hit in 2017. Texas A&M University, led by Sean Shamgar, University of Texas Austin, led by EJ Sorrell, and St. John’s School, led by Lincoln Dow, came out on a Saturday to work with All Hands and Hearts.
The students donned hard hats and got their hands dirty dry-walling damaged homes. Shamgar, who organized this project, expressed why the experience was so memorable.
“Being able to organize a service project that directly benefited someone affected by Harvey makes this project have a special place in my heart.”
Secular Student Alliance plans to roll out more volunteer opportunities for our student chapters in the upcoming semester. We are already in the process of partnering once again with Foundation Beyond Belief and All Hands and Hearts to host our very first Secular Spring Break in Puerto Rico, and in April we will partner with the secular community for Secular Week of Action. Stay tuned for more details about these excited opportunities!
