We're here to help your group.

Hello again, everyone! I hope your semester is going well!

This week we have a reminder about our next webinar, which is all about promoting your group - so don't miss it! We also have news about our Leadership Track at the Texas Freethought Convention, where Richard Dawkins, PZ Myers, Michael Shermer, and many others will be speaking. It's going to be a ton a fun, so if you can get there, I really recommend it! We also want to tell you about the Reason Rally in March! With your help, it will be the largest gathering of atheists in America.

It looks like you all are doing or planning to do great things this year. We are excited to see all the awesome events that you come up with. Good luck, and don't forget that we are here to back you up.

Good luck!

Next SSA Webinar: "Promotion: How to Get Noticed"

webinar logoWe're excited to announce the next episode in the SSA's Webinar Series! On Tuesday, September 13th from 7:30 - 9pm, join our new Event Specialist Sarah Moglia as she presents "

The SSA will be trying out a series of webinar-based leadership training sessions this semester. Students will gain access to the same great leadership training we give at conferences but from the comfort of their own homes - and for free!

Attendees can anticipate topics like fundraising, dealing with difficult people, becoming more diverse, media relations, being more edgy, service projects, setting goals, leadership transitions, delegation, event promotion, how to hold an awesome speaker event, and how to start a group.  This will also give group leaders across the continent increased access to the members of the SSA Campus Organizer Team as well as guest presenters of note, who will all be involved in various webinars depending on their areas of expertise.

These webinars will take place the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month from 7:30pm - 9:00pm EST.  While they are free, you will be required to register to attend them.  The webinars themselves will generally last 45-50 minutes with the remaining time being dedicated to Q&A.

More will be added, but we have several locked in for our fall webinars:

Sept. 13 - Promotion: How to Get Noticed with Events Specialist Sarah Moglia.  Register now!

">Promotion: How to Get Noticed." She'll be talking about how to promote your group and special events. Learn how to effectively advertise through flyers, advertisements, and social media! If you want to get your group noticed this year, this is the webinar you’ll want to attend!
The webinar is free, but you do need to register in order to attend. Any officers, advisors or members of your group are welcome to join us! You'll want to show up about five minutes beforehand to get set up with the software. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us!

Leadership Tracks Update!

We have a few updates on our upcoming Leadership Tracks that we're excited to share with you!

We've completed our speaker lineup for the Leadership Track at the Texas Freethought Convention! We've got a great combination of movement leaders and outstanding students to share their knowledge and experience. Plus, the schedule for SSA's events is now up online. Last but not least, we have travel grants available for this event, so if funding is an obstacle, let us help!

We've been doing some talking about our Leadership Track at the Sacramento Freethought Day, but we realize that information has been slow in coming. We've now nailed down most of our speakers and have a tentative schedule up on our website! More details should be coming soon, so stay tuned!

Reason Rally: The Secular Event of the Decade!

Reason Rally Logo
On March 24, 2012, the biggest rally of atheists to ever assemble will descend upon Washington, DC. The event will feature icons of the movement, and it will be the first time in over a decade that our unanimous voice will be heard.

And the students not only should be a part of it - they deserve to be a part of it.

You can bet the SSA is going to be there! We will have a sizeable spot staked out and we plan to have pizza, fun, and more.

Why are we telling you about this seven months out? Because it's going to be an enormous part of what we do for the next seven months and you (and your group) should start planning to attend now! Mark it on your calendars, start arranging carpools and applying for funds. This may be the single most important event in the secular movement during your college experience. The more students in attendance, the merrier we will be, and the more effective the event.

Details will be rolling out over the next months. For questions about the SSA at the Reason Rally, contact high school specialist JT Eberhard.
