Welcome New Employees!
This is an exciting time for the SSA! With our affiliate count growing exponentially (we have over 350 now!), we are expanding the staff as well so we can handle all of our growth!
Our first new hire is Jessica Kirsner, who is our new Development Associate. Jessica is currently pursuing a BA in biology with minors in political science and anthropology at the University of Miami and will graduate in May, when she will join the SSA full time. This is her first job in the secular movement, but was active with UM’s SSA affiliate, SHAARKS.
We are also bringing on Gordon Maples as our Regional Campus Organizer. Gordon is the founder and organizer of the Southeastern Collegiate Atheist Alliance (SECAA), a network of secular student groups in the southeast formed to promote more stable vertical and horizontal networking between local college groups and national organizations. He will graduate from the University of Alabama in May with a degree in history.
Given the success of our regional networks, we're actually bringing a part-time Regional Campus Organizer on as well! Kevin Butler, founder and organizer of the Texas Regional SSA group, will also be joining us as a staff member. He currently attends the University of Texas at Dallas, studying management information systems.
Since it's summer, we are also bringing on two interns!
Dave Muscato is a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia, majoring in economics and anthropology and minoring in classical Latin and philosophy (ethics emphasis). He will be our writing intern.
Together, Ellen and Dave will be revising our Group Running Guide when they start work in May. We sent out over 350 guides last year, and we're looking forward to improving it so we can continue to offer high quality advice to our student leaders.
We're very excited about welcoming the new members of our team! Things are going great for the secular movement, thanks to all of our excellent students, supporters, staff, and volunteers!
